At MeraKAD, we realize that every day is an opportunity to work hard and serve the people who work with our products and services. These very people work tirelessly to protect and defend our great nation. That’s why we (the folks at MeraKAD) hold ourselves to high standards, providing second-to-none engineering services.
How we operate
Following an Engineering-First Approach
This means that our customer facing folks have to be technical, our managers have to be technical, and our CEO has to be technical. It means that we believe in building capabilities rather than just talking about them. MeraKAD employees are united by a common commitment to doing “real work”. There are those that build solutions and solve problems and then there is everyone else. Every employee is thoroughly vetted to make sure they have what we call the “builder mentality”.
Common Customer Obsession
Having worked for other defense contractors, the founders of MeraKAD noticed that only a select few knew about the warfighter’s or operator’s CONOPs. Only a select few usually know what the customer really wants. This handicaps engineers because they can’t apply their creative juices to the technical problems that actually matter. This costs the government and taxpayers a lot of money. At MeraKAD, everyone must be a product manager to varying degrees.
At every phase of every project, our engineers have to understand how their particular component fits into the general architecture and enables the mission. This is the ultimate form of customer obsession, it helps us stay lean and focus purely on efforts that drive short and long term value for the customer.
Prevent Management for the sake of Management
Those who can, they do and those who can’t, they manage. This goes back to everyone being technical at our firm. We realize that naturally organizations evolve into complex entities and there needs to be some form of heirarchy. We try our best to keep a flat hierarchy to encourage equality and creativity. We keep costs low and pass on those costs to our clients because our internal processes are standardized, our internal slide formats are standardized, and the format of our meetings are standardized. Employees have a baseline to work with and common communication structures allow employees to quickly get up to speed on technical projects.
Whenever management gets in the way of engineering, we take a timeout and figure out why that is – the focus is never on statusing management, the focus is never on agile/waterfall processes just for the sake of having process that wastes man-hours, and the focus is never on analysis paralysis of common everyday tasks. Our founder once put it – “we don’t sweat the small stuff”.
Set the Bar for Safety, Equality and Integrity
Although we are for-profit, our life experiences teach us that the secret to long-term profit is not penny-pinching and cutting corners. For every project, we take the safety of our customers safety of our employees very seriously. We make sure that our employees are treated and treat others fairly in their work and business dealings.
